Garnet Coltrane sounds like the exotic name for a secret international spy. Actually a she's a lovely newish cultivar, a colorful combo of some really pretty traits in one newish evergreen. Start with the basic shape and growth habit of the midsized evergreen, rosette shaped clumps and maybe 12" to 16" height. Nice, lipstick pink stems hold generous, smooth, ovate leaves with a pointed tip, in a deep, medium green, fanning out in a whorl as they circle the center of the rosette. Most of the fancy, colorful decor is along the veins, which are indented enough to quilt the leaves a bit. Stained bright red down the midrib and veins, (coloring outside the lines a bit) ; the side veins also have vague blots of pale yellow, lime and sea greens tracing them. She's a glamourous pot of colors. She behaves just like all your other evergreens.

- Water - Medium (3): Water plant when dry. Plant does not like soil to always be moist, but doesn't like to stay dry once becomes dry. Water as soon as soil is dry.
- Light - Medium (3): Plant prefers natural, diffused light. Can be placed in a spacious living room. Indirect light preferred. No direct sunlight on leaves.
- Difficulty - Medium (3): Not too difficult to keep happy, but does require some attention.
