4" Sempervivum Arachnoideum

$2.25

The Latin name Sempervivum means "always alive" and it will seem like it to you when you get one. From the Alps and other European mountain heights we get this inmmortal beauty where people thought they could protect them from lightning and witches! Round, perfect, geometrically patterned balls crowd their pots, a profusion of nice, big mother balls with lots of varying sizes of youngster balls circling them. Always alive are the neverending children and grandchildren taking over as older and bloomed mothers pass away and go to planty heaven. The main attraction here is the Arachnoideum part, which means, you know, spidery. A fantastic network of bright, shimmery white threads crisscross the balls in precise, geometric patterns like an exquisite embroidery, looking for all the world like fancy spider webs. Not too sure what the purpose of the threads is but the effect is striking. The constellation of large, star-shaped flowers on short stems come in a gorgeous shade of rosy, pink with a bright, lime green dot in the center. Around the dot is some magenta shading sending points up the petals, with little sprays of bright red pistils and anthers to complete the color show. You must have this singular plant for a fun addition to your collection and most important, to save you from lightning and witches.
