5" Alocasia Golden Bone

$48.00

Golden Bone is a fun descriptive name for this good looking Alocasia. It describes the pale golden veins regularly quilting the leaves, glowing like the skeleton of the plant. Big, hearty, arrow leaves in deep, blackish velvet green grow to 18" at maturity, not a lot of leaves to a plant as they will shed a leaf here and there as they grow new ones, but at 12" to 18" each leaf is an event. Youngsters will be smaller at first. They have a satiny smooth finish to them and just a bit of transparency when looked through in bright light, a muted wine tints the underleaves. Some plants have been rumoured to have some soft, golden, mottly variegation at maturity. The stems are fleshy, soft and pinkish green. Not a big plant as Alocasias go, this one will be around 2-3' overall, making new baby plants all the time to take over when needed. There are flowers sometimes, rumoured to be red (some are cream colored too) with green to orange clusters of berries following. If this wasn't a hybrid and a natural jungle denizen, those berries would be food for bats, birds and the occasional kinkajou.

Quick Care Guide:

  • Water - Med/High (4):  Prefers more water than most, but soil can dry out periodically. Use a spray bottle to mist and increase humidity levels without soaking the soil and roots.
  • Light - Medium (3):  Plant prefers natural, diffused light. Can be placed in a spacious living room. Indirect light preferred. No direct sunlight on leaves.
  • Difficulty - Medium (3):  Not too difficult to keep happy, but does require some attention.
