Ficus Ginseng is so named for the fat, tubery, gnarled roots, which are grown a bit, then soil moved away exposing their fantastic forms. Young Ficus Microcarpa shoots are then grafted on for a fresh, new top to an ancient looking, bonsai base. A little trimming here and there keeps the tiny tree shape. Smallish pots are maybe a little harder to get the watering just right but necessary to keep the plant in bounds; a larger one will cause the bonsai shape to disappear as it joyfully bounds upwards. You know how Ficus are! Keep Ginseng on a desk or countertop to look at those amazing roots. Put a favorite rock or two in the pot too, and maybe a tiny pagoda.
