Moses in the Cradle comes from the West Indies and Central America, where it grows thickly as a groundcover. In warmer states of the US it is also cultivated in the ground. In a pot and up close, this Bicolor has sword shaped leaves of a dull green with underleaves of gleaming, brightest purple with a yellow/cream edging. The flowers are the real attraction though, with little, purple, almond shaped "boats" with teeny white flowers inside, resembling little baby Moses in his snug, little, water basket boat floating on the Nile. Bicolor is more compact and tidy than its Tricolor and Discolor relatives and will stay neat as a pin in its pot.
