From Mexico we get the Tradescantia Zebrina, named for the stripey leaves. Take a purply, pointy, oval leaf, with silvery sage side stripes and a deep green center stripe, and you have Zebrina. The underleaves and stems glow purple as well. Silvery soft hairs on the leaves complete the palette. It's at home trailing prettily down the sides of the pot in a hanging basket or on a shelf with a trimmed haircut to keep it in shape. Look closely in good light and see sparkly cells in the depths of the leaves.
