4" Fern, Maidenhair 'Lisa'

We have run out of stock for this item.
The epithet Maidenhair Lisa is a reference to the old use of the Fern in a natural shampoo used by young women. This most ethereal, frail looking fern is tougher than she looks. A cold hardy brake fern from the forest, it has waterproof leaves in a misty light green on tough and fibrous threadlike stems. Stems arise from a central clump in fronds with a more traditional triangular shape than regular Maidenhair. This is a water lover. Plants like misting and soil evenly moist and plants will frizzle to a burnt crisp if left too dry. The plant will completely resprout if it loses its leaves though. Native Americans finding the plant in damp forested areas found the plant useful in dressing wounds and used the stems to make a fine black dye or stain.

Quick Care Guide:
- Water - High (5): Plants in this category prefer moist soil. Do not let the plant dry out in between waterings. Water when the soil is still lightly damp. Use a spray bottle to mist regularly to keep humidity levels optimal.
- Light - Med/High (4): Needs more light than most, but direct light not necessary. Can handle morning and afternoon sun directly on leaves.
- Difficulty - High (5): These plants require the most attention and are not the easiest to maintain. Not the best option for beginner plant-parents.
