4" Anthurium, Clarinervium

$43.00

You would never think this is an Anthurium by the way it behaves. One common nickname is the velvet cardboard Anthurium, velvet yes, but not sure about the cardboard part. Maybe because the leaves are pretty tough and sturdy. Larger than most Anthuriums, it can grow quickly to around 3' tall and wide, with big old leaves of 10" when mature. Those heart shaped, leathery textured leaves are a deep, pine green velvet with the real attraction, prominent white veins evenly networking those leaves. Not a ton of leaves, they're so spectacular you only need a few of those wildly exotic things. Native to southern Mexico, it lives as an epiphyte clinging to steamy rainforest jungle trees on mossy branches, amid creepers, orchids and ferns, collecting water from rain and mists and food from organic matter that happens to land nearby and break down to Anthurium food. As an Anthurium, of course it has a bloom but it's not too exciting, a simple spathe and spadix assembly but small and unassuming. The leaves are the point, bringing instant exotic to your collection.

Quick Care Guide:

  • Water - Med/High (4):  Prefers more water than most, but soil can dry out periodically. Use a spray bottle to mist and increase humidity levels without soaking the soil and roots.
  • Light - Medium (3):  Plant prefers natural, diffused light. Can be placed in a spacious living room. Indirect light preferred. No direct sunlight on leaves.
  • Difficulty - Low/Med (2):  A little less finicky than most. Doesn't require much attention at all.
