Microsorum Green Flame sure looks like it's one of the cool, popular group, the Birdsnests, but it's not. He's more related to Polypodium ferns but shares the look, growth habit, and care of the Birdies. In nature he's found in anything from steamiest, lush rainforests to alpine jungley places, always tropical. In your home he will prove so very tough and easy to do, anywhere there's medium to bright light. Like the Birdsnest, strong, smooth, leathery, satiny, shiny-dull fronds rise up out of the pot waving gently upwards like a magical green fire. Colored in rich apple green, the last few inches of the tips glow lightest lime as the light shines through them. Those tips bust out exuberantly in forks and sparks and fingers and wiggles, each with a strong midvein tracing to the end. If you're new to the fern thing or have a few around, you can't go wrong with this reliable beauty. Bring one home and introduce him around!
