4" Fern, Japanese Bird's Nest

Japanese Birdsnest is a fun, quirky addition to your plant family. Glossy, strappy, flighty, flyaway leaves with waves and curves unfurl from the middle of the plant and fly away upwards. A peek into the center of the plant's "nest" reveals tightly rolled, new little leaves resembling nothing so much as a bird's nest of green "eggs" surrounded by brown hairy stuff. In the wild tropical jungles it calls home, the Birdsnest grows on trees and propagates from spores softly dusting down to lower, mossy tree branches or a hidden, damp and earthy fertile and mossy new home in the leaves, mosses, and loam of the forest floor. Or...It makes a fine houseplant, not at all as fussy as some ferns can be, happy as can be in a steamy bathroom with a window somewheres or anywheres else in your home.

Quick Care Guide:

  • Water - Med/High (4):  Prefers more water than most, but soil can dry out periodically. Use a spray bottle to mist and increase humidity levels without soaking the soil and roots.
  • Light - Med/High (4):  Needs more light than most, but direct light not necessary. Can handle morning and afternoon sun directly on leaves.
  • Difficulty - Low/Med (2):  A little less finicky than most. Doesn't require much attention at all.
