Fittonia is a striking little plant from South American rainforests, named for Elizabeth and Sara Fitton. Botanists have named it "nerve plant" for its network of white veining on the oval, deep green leaves. With a dry, thin, and crispy texture, the leaves need constant water and will shrivel readily when the plant gets too dry. On the other hand, wilted, too dry plants will often revive and stand right back up again when watered as if nothing happened. Lovely in a low pot or basket, pretty in arrangements with emerald green and pink colored plants, this plant is a real looker. Humidity loving Fittonias thrive in terrariums where their low growth habit makes them a good fit in small places.
