4" Gymnocalycium Stenogonum

$10.00

From South America comes this little ball of a cactus. The Latin name translates to "naked, narrow bud" a description of the smooth flower, and the narrow ridges of the cactus ball's shape. Globes of dark green to burgundy/mauve, rather than being smooth are formed with distinct ridges, fluted lobes, (often 8 of them) with deep valleys between. Each ball has the potential of growing to about 6". The ridges, top to bottom are dotted by even dots of little, whitish, furry cotton tufts each with a little star spray of stickery spines. Deep in the valleys between the ridges can be a dark maroon shading in some plants. From just anywhere on the top bust out many gorgeous large flowers, big, round, flat and multipetaled in many shades of pinks. They are visited by bees, butterflies and hummingbirds appreciating the sweet nectar and spreading the pollen far and wide too.

  • Drought Tolerant
  • Low Maintenance

Quick Care Guide:

    • Water - Low (1):  Needs very little water to survive. Wait until the plant is completely dry then fully soak. Drought tolerant by nature.
    • High - (5):  Plant needs a lot of light; direct is even better. These plants do best when placed on a window sill or next to a bright window. Avoid concentrated, hot light from window which may cause burning (magnifying glass effect).
    • Difficulty - Low (1):  These plants need barely any attention to thrive. Set it and forget it.
