4" Gynura Purple Passion

$16.00

Named Purple Velvet for good reason, this plant is the purplest, velvetiest plant you will ever see. If it wasn't for the purple, if you saw it in your garden you may think it was a weed with its olive green, very jaggedy and toothy leaf edges, and moppy, rambling trailing everywhere. In a pot you have piles of those toothy leaves, small and paired at first, growing to 3" or so with that shockingly bright, purple velvet plush covering the leaves, stems, everything, which is why we love it. The leaves are also cupped, curved and rumpled along vines that grow up to 4'-5' at least, quite the sight in a hanging pot. As if that's not enough, there are flowers at the ends of the vines, improbable, frilly, bright orange dandelion poufs; a lot going on here. The flowers smell not so nice, which we forgive for Velvet's startling beauty. Give it lots of light, even a bit of morning or late afternoon sun.
