4" Leuchtenbergia principis SQ

We have run out of stock for this item.

A fireworks starburst of a plant, triangular, blue green leaves with darkened margins up to 8" long stiffly poke out with curiously blunt cut tips topped with oversized thin, white, papery spines each in its own little starburst too. The spines are set in a little skirt of fuzz and turn to brown paper as they age. It looks like there are more spines than leaves when you look at it; the spines themselves can grow to 8" and more! The leaves can get to around 14" long and the plant will grow upwards a couple of feet, but real slowly, shedding bottom leaves to expose a woody trunk. The very grand name is after the distinguished Maximilian Joseph Eugene, the Duke of Leuchtenberg, an amateur botanist himself. The surprising flowers are oversized yellow Dandelion blooms, bright, butter yellow, right on top of the plant. A very fun plant to have around.

  • Drought Tolerant
  • Low Maintenance

Quick Care Guide:

    • Water - Low (1):  Needs very little water to survive. Wait until the plant is completely dry then fully soak. Drought tolerant by nature.
    • Light - High (5):  Plant needs a lot of light; direct is even better. These plants do best when placed on a window sill or next to a bright window. Avoid concentrated, hot light from window which may cause burning (magnifying glass effect).
    • Difficulty - Low (1):  These plants need barely any attention to thrive. Set it and forget it.
