Marantas were named for Bartolomeo Maranta, of the Botanical Gardens of Naples in the 1500s. They are some of the most intriguing colored houseplants we have. Also called "Fantasy", Maranta Light Veins is, in all things, the same as good old Leuconeura, except for a little more color excitement. Same soft, oval, emerald green leaves growing on wiry stems, angling each leaf to lay mostly flat but with a clear view of the overhead light it competed for in the rainforest, and then sharing the fun trait of closing up at night seemingly praying for itself and its plant friends, by way of some water movement in the leaves and a specially designed joint in the leaf stem that allows for the leaf movement. The same rabbit tracks of paired, purply green dark spots running down each leaf as if a bunny just hopped by run down both sides of the midrib. The difference in this one is the pale and glowing white hue of the midvein and main, side veins that curve down to the edges and if you look real close, with maybe sun behind the leaf, the network of tiny veins mapping the leaves are a golden yellow, arranged in tiny, even, stripes. A delicate, golden web. This lovely, colorful thing is a nice counter or table plant where you can see the colors from above, but, as with all Marantas, will gracefully trail a bit if you hang it too.
