4" Othonna Capensis 'Ruby Beads'

$8.00

We have run out of stock for this item.

Othonna Ruby Beads comes to us from the dry, dusty, deserted, rocky places in South Africa where it scrambles among the rocks, looking for a little moisture and shade. Full pots of greenish purple, long skinny tubes dangle from reddish stems, looking like a wild hairdo. In brightest light to full sun, the stems turn scarlet and the beads ruby-red tinged, hence the other nickname, "String of Rubies."  We also have the name "String of Pickles" to work with, from the shape of the foliage. Oddly, the plants want less water and are somewhat dormant in summer and grow like crazy in the winter. Sunny and cheerful, yellow flowers that look exactly like daisies appear all over the plant year-round like a spring meadow. Ruby Beads grows quite long in a hanging pot, and benefits from haircuts here and there.
