Once as rare as a magical unicorn was Alocasia Unicorn, carefully and painstakingly created by plant breeder Lindsay Sisti in 2021. A beautiful child of two beautiful Alocasia parents, it has its own unique look. The huge, (for the plant's overall size) upright, always facing you leaves arrive in high gloss, rich green and mature to deepest green, satin finish leather with wrinkles where the veins are. The whole plant is usually just a handful of huge leaves, dramatic and moody. Undersides of those few leaves are a nice, satiny wine color. Flowers may appear on the mature plant, the usual spathe and spadix assembly of Aroids, these ones are slim, creamy white ones that end up as round, yellow, seedy berries. Look for the magical, irridescent sheen on the leaves, perfect for a unicorn.
Quick Care Guide:
- Water - Med/High (4): Prefers more water than most, but soil can dry out periodically. Use a spray bottle to mist and increase humidity levels without soaking the soil and roots.
- Light - Medium (3): Plant prefers natural, diffused light. Can be placed in a spacious living room. Indirect light preferred. No direct sunlight on leaves.
- Difficulty - Medium (3): Not too difficult to keep happy, but does require some attention.
