Alocasia Scaplrum, Samar Lance, endemic to Samar Island in the Philippines, is well loved as a houseplant there but the rest of the world didn't know anything about it until quite recently. The rural lifestyle and assorted political concerns keep the island difficult to visit, leading to the fascinating speculation about what delightful new plants are waiting there to be discovered. Overall, it's a small scale plant with outsized leaves, very narrow and skinny, that come to a sharp point; in fact the whole plant is a pot of green knives. Wrinkly and shiny with deeply recessed, branchy veins, those knives have a faint and fleeting blue tinge that appears just whenever. Expect around 12" to 18" or so of height. This tropical guy loves heat. Keep him warm to keep him happy.
