This soft, spineless plant is actually more of a succulent than cactus and it is often treated as an indoor plant. They are known for their massive flowers that look almost identical to a starfish when fully bloomed. However, one must be warned, as the flowers do not smell nearly as good as they look! They are known as a "stinky flower" because they do not omit a pleasant fragrance, but that does not mean they are going to stink up your home. Just don't get your nose too close and this blooming succulent may just become your new favorite plant!
*Flowers are currently budding, but not yet blooming. Second photo below shows an example of a mature bloom.
Water: As a succulent, these plants like their soil to dry out completely before being watered again. Be sure to completely soak the soil when it is time to water.
Light: Stapelia need lots of light and should be placed in a well-lit area; especially to encourage the flowers to bloom. Ours are currently acclimated for indoor use, but they can acclimate to withstand full-sun as well.
