This Tradescantia Red Gem looks really more like dark purple but look at it with the sun shining through the foliage and you'll surely see red. Red Gem also has the racy nickname "dark desire", a nod to that jazzy, deep purple. Two silvery-sage stripes line each hairy leaf, growing so closely together you'll never reach bottom. Tradescantias are native to our Americas and a crowd of colorful cultivars have been bred from those wild natives. Red Gem trails nicely and can be pinched to keep nice and fat and full. Stems that bail out and drop off the pot or are deliberately pinched root so easily you won't believe it.
